Camp site at Poverty Rock The weather was warm and sunny, there were few mosquitos, and the river water was warm. We had no canoe upsets, with the only slight damage being suffered to Peter T.'s wood/canvas canoe in the rock gardens upstream of Poverty Rock.

A treat for us on the second day was to see the historic reenactment of the Royal North West Mounted Police horse & wagon ride beside the Milk River on the Sunday on its way to Fort Macleod.

In addition to our paddling trip, we took the guided tour to the rock carvings (Petroglyphs) and paintings (petrographs) in the restricted area of Writing on Stone Prov Park.

Our basic itinerary was as follows:

  • Day 1: Coffin bridge to Poverty Rock camp site on Milk River
  • Day 2: Poverty Rock to Writing on Stone Prov Park beach
